Review Time With Lo: The Puck Secret

~ 5 stars for the perfect start of a series ~

Listen, I have never read G.N. Wright prior to this, but include hockey into a romance book and I am there. I always love getting to read new authors through hockey books as it is something I am comfortable with and love. More times then not, if done right with sports, I will love it. However, very few will have me hooked by page one, but man, I was hooked by the first paragraph. The flow of the writing mixed with very unique and complex characters was so well done. Mixing in mental health representation without overdoing it or making it the story told versus the romance was done super well in my opinion. Plus, the character development was just perfection.

Our main female character, Maddie, opens up about the dark secrets of her family and the pressures that weigh on her. I loved the mention of a patriarchal society within our strong female character. Just showing the shared trauma that Maddie and Nova, our main man, had added some twists to the story without feeling overdramatic. Plus, the friendships and sibling relationships just added to the story. I love me a good found family trope and The Puck Secret definitely has that covered!

The relationship between Maddie and Nova did not feel rushed or unsettled as the book progressed. You got to see them come together as enemies to lovers but with a surprise. A wrong phone number with a dramatic text got our love story started before the characters even knew it.

Y'all and do not forget the spice!!! Boy oh boy, did the spice deliver.

All in all, I loved this book and cannot wait for the next book in the series! It is already on my TBR and will be one I binge read when it is released.
